GRANITE

Granite is a natural stone composed of quartz, feldspar and mica. Granite is mined in large blocks that are then cut into slabs.

Granite countertops are extremely heat and scratch resistant, however, it is not impervious, and you should never use knives or place hot pots on any countertop surface. Because of the fabrication process, granite is more resistant to damage than laminate, but needs more attention than quartz. Because it is mined, it has natural fissures that require sealing about every 12 months. Not doing this may cause fluids and bacteria to get trapped in the granite. Like quartz countertop, seams may be visible. And, although any seams may still be visible; they do not pose a threat to the material from water pooling, as can happen with laminate tops.

Unlike quartz, each slab of granite is unique, not ideal for individuals who like symmetry or consistency, but perfect for the person who is looking for a top with character and natural beauty.
